Power and Energy System Research Center

A reliable energy supply is vital to the economic development of Taiwan. With environmental concerns in mind, the goals of the Power and Energy System Research Center are to develop power and energy strategies, assist in upgrading the industrial sector, improve energy efficiency, and to train highly qualified personnel. To serve the community, NTUST is organized around ten research themes: power system analysis, Taiwan power system simulation, distribution automation, electric power quality, green energy systems, electrical and mechanical systems for railways, high voltage engineering, electromagnetic interference, protective relaying and coordination for power systems, and lighting and distribution power systems. Additionally, the Center will seek to establish a long-term cooperative relationship with industry, setting up the necessary facilities and raising funds for ongoing research and operations.

Power Electronics and Motor Control Research Center

Recently, the high-tech sector has undergone significant growth in Taiwan. Among other things, this has led to growth in the requirements of the power electronics and motor control technology area. At the NTUST, the power electronics and motor drive field includes highly-qualified faculty, a healthy graduate student population, and excellent facilities and material support. The development of the Center revolves around three focal points. Initially, the major aim of the Center is to consolidate research resources in a new laboratory at the University. Next, while focusing on a few special areas in an effort to enhance its reputation, the Center will cultivate cooperation with the power electronics and motor drive industry in Taiwan. Finally, the Center will seek more sponsors from the industrial sector to accrue enough funds to develop several larger laboratories and purchase essential equipment and instrumentation.
